Hacktoberfest 2023: Learn and Explore Open-Source Conversational AI Projects
The conversational AI landscape has been full of change since ChatGPT released in November 2022. Big companies rushed to catch up with their own GPT-like applications, particularly with bots and search apps. But some of the most interesting and useful projects came from the open-source community.
Open-source models allow developers to choose what best fits their needs and give people more control over their data. Similarly, open-source applications like LangChain or AutoChain help people use LLMs and other tools. There are many tools beyond those associated with LLMs, such as tools for making a Discord bot. The open-source community effort strengthens the entire field of conversational AI.
Each October, Hacktoberfest runs to encourage people to support and contribute to open-source projects. The goal is to make 4 contributions to open-source projects by the end of October. In the past, completing your contributions netted you a t-shirt, but this year rewards will be digital. You can sign up at the Hacktoberfest website.
Participating projects will have a list of issues that they would like help with. Maybe you’d like to dive into the technical bugs or features in your favorite programming language. Or a language you’re just learning! Maybe you’d prefer to contribute a blog post or tutorial. There are many projects with open issues for you to explore and contribute to. There’s also a supportive and enthusiastic community of contributors to help you when you need it.
Hacktoberfest offers a great opportunity to learn new things, apply your skills, explore cool projects, and help others. If you have some time, give it a try!
